DEPTH OF FIELD

Render out a depth pass in Maya, this is a black and white image where the closer the area to the camera the whiter it will be.

If using a separate image as the depth map we must combine it with a copy node, and create a custom channel or just map it to depth.

Create a ZDefocus node.

MULTI MATTE and RGB MATTE

Press K to create a copy node.

The Multi Matte goes into A

The Normal RGBA goes into B

Now copy the RGBA of the matte into custom channels while create a new custom channel name one for each matte.

Once done we can grab the matte at anytime downstream.
