11. SKINNING: SKIN PRIMER

This video is an introduction to our skinning workflow in Hive.

In this video you’ll see a basic workflow using two free scripts.

– Skin Wrangler
– Braverabbit Smooth Skin Weights

You may skin Hive rigs with any method or tools.

NG Skin Tools is another popular skinning tool that works well with Hive. Some people also prefer to skin with the default Maya tools.

DOWNLOAD THE SCRIPTS
Download Skin Wrangler
On the Github page, click the green “Code” button, then click “Download ZIP”.
Install instructions are in the .zip file.
Note: Skin Wrangler is by Chris Evans, we support it and keep it running for new versions of Maya.

Download Braverabbit Smooth Weights
Click the red “Download” button.
To install unzip the download and drag the provided dragDropInstaller.py in the main Maya window. See the page for more information.

Video training on the installation of these scripts is planned.
