Viewport 2.0: Ramp & Layered Shaders

Maya: Viewport 2.0, Shaders

In This Class You’ll Access…
This class goes deeper into viewport shaders and explores the ramp and layered shaders.

The Ramp Shader offers a large range of customisable looks, fire, XRay, cell shaded, skin and fresnel reflections all controlled by ramp colours or curves.

The layered shader enables us to layer the looks of our shaders, and in this class it offers solutions to the shortcomings of the ramp shader like it’s lack of texture capability in the viewport. And we can also use it to combine multiple shaders with transparency masks or by separating specular layers.

We’ll see how we can use a textured lambert and then combine a ramp shader’s fresnel reflectivity to act as a clear coat over the textured shader. And we’ll use a mask to combine a blinn and lambert for a checkered look.

Lets get deeper into shaders with this class on the very versatile ramp and layered shaders. Great for viewport renders!
