Joining Objects
Maya: Modeling Fundamentals
We’ll do three exercises. First up is the famous “Cylinder And Plane Exercise” given to Andrew’s students as a way of learning the C3dC hotkeys. You’ll see how easy it is to join a cylinder and plane in SubDs. Hotkeys for speed, learn like a pro and we’ll talk about when it’s ok to use non quads too.
Next it’s onto the quad draw, a tool that deserves it’s own page but we’ll get started by connecting a sphere and cube in subDs, see the magic that is the quad draw relax.
Then it’s onto organic modelling and we’ll quad draw a mouth and eyes onto an egg shaped head. This foundational exercise is for quickly building faces. And last we’ll go through smoothing tips for keeping meshes clean even when there’s nothing to snap to.

genial curso
thanks mate!
The sphere – cube joining lesson is the most illuminating retopo class I’ve seen in a long time. Starting to love quad draw and live surfaces…
Yeah cheers, Enrique, yes Quad Draw has pretty dramatically changed the way I think about modelling, it’s really freeing.
Be sure to check out the Quad Draw Fundamentals page (Tortoise) and the Croc Retopology page too. They extend this way of thinking and go into more detail.
I’m on it!. I’m moving from blender to Maya and started with the basics. Step by step, learning the keybindings, and blocking characters very soon!.
wow this blew my mind fa sure definitely amazing
cheers no worries!
