2. Modeling Foundations (8hrs)

This course will take you through modelling a biped cartoon character. Using pre designed character turnarounds rough out 10 characters without joining the meshes. Choose one character and connect the meshes and add the details. Clean and UV the model ready for rigging.

This is not a step by step course, its designed so you can model a cartoon character using polygon techniques ready for animated production. This is a section of the larger Intermediate generalist course. This is an indermediate course designed for university level students.

Software Used: Maya (free student copy), Photoshop (optional)
Tools/Plugins Used: C3dC Preferences and hotkeys.

3. Auto Rigging Course (11hrs)

This course will take you through techniques for auto rigging characters for both facial and body rigs. Designed for university level students we’ll go through some rigging basics but we’ll be using automated tools to speedup the workflow.

We’ll rig with Rapid Rig Modular, a modular rigging system great for building all manner of creatures including bipeds. We’ve also got the option of using the ZooTools autorigger which comes free in the student edition. ZooTools is a modular rigger though it’s training is restricted to a biped system.

Skinning is covered thoroughly with a few handy tools and deformation with braverabbit SHAPES (free version available)

For the facial system we’ll learn how to manually build eye and jaw rigs then we’ll move onto the drag and drop version where we can rig facial in minutes. This rigging system is made for regular jaws and round front facing eyes. Each rig part can be used without the other.

Tools/Plugins Used: C3dC Preferences and hotkeys (included). Rapid Rig Modular ($90USD) or zooTools (free PLE). braverabbit SHAPES (free PLE). Skin Wrangler (free), braverabbit rabbit skin smooth (free)
